Yesterday on our Facebook page we heard what some of you are up to — enjoying the offseason, officiating another sport, or taking no offseason in sunny California! Whether you are on the field or looking ahead to next baseball season, it’s never a bad time to brush up on the rules. Today’s video of the day comes from way back in 2003… and home plate umpire Jim Joyce is quickly questioned by Montreal Expos players. He correctly rules the infield fly rule on this play, but the Expos don’t realize they can’t just step on home plate for a force after the ball is dropped.

Have you ever had something like this happen in one of your games? Often, especially at the youth level, players and coaches are confused no matter how loudly you declare the infield fly. And while we’re at it, let’s say you forgot to declare the infield fly in a situation like this. Can you correct that situation after the fact? And how would you do so? Let us know in the comments on this post or on our Facebook and Twitter pages!
